01 applications for hire of spaces and services at brighthelm must be made on the booking form provided which, after completion and signing must be returned promptly to: the bookings officer, brighthelm community centre, north road, brighton bn1 1yd. telephone number 01273 821512.

the person signing the booking form shall be considered the person responsible
as the hirer unless the booking form is signed on behalf of an organisation.
in which case the officers of that organisation shall be considered the hirer
and shall be jointly and serverally responsible and liable under these conditions
with the person who signs the form.

management reserves the right to refuse any application, to stop any function
not properly conducted, and to remove any article or exhibit, which is inconsistent
with the aims and principals of brighthelm or the objects of the united reform
church.

members of religious, quasi-religious, and artistic groups in particular should
note that failure to supply information upon request which allows management
to make a judgement as to the nature of the activity concerned may lead to
cancellation at short notice and without liability for any loss incurred by
the hirer.

brighthelm reserves the right on confirmation of booking to require the hirer
to submit a draft of any poster, notice, bill, programme, announcement, advertisement;
or invitation relating to an event for which brighthelm has been hired and
shall comply with all requirements with regard thereto.

the hirer is not entitled to enter the premises for the purpose of preparation
at any time other than during the hours agreed.

management may require payment in advance of the whole of the hire charge
or a proportion of the hire charge or a deposit.

in the event of a confirmed booking cancelled by the hirer, the following
cancellation charges will apply:

the space hired shall not be used for any purpose other than that stated on
the booking form, nor by any other person or organisation other than the hirer.
nothing contained herein shall be construed as conferring upon the hirer any
rights of occupation or use of brighthelm other than a personal licence.

management will not be responsible for the safety of any article of any kind
which is brought into or left in brighthelm.

brighthelm operates a no smoking policy on all floors.

the hirer must ensure that all fire and safety requirements laid down from
time to time by management are observed. no exits may be blocked, nor additional
chairs be placed in the corridors or aisles, nor any tables placed in positions
other than as agreed in advance with management. no fire appliance may be
removed or tampered with, except in the case of fire. no fire doors may be
kept open by means of a chair, doorstop, wedge or any other such device. it
is a legal requirement of the performance licences that all seating arrangements
for any performance must be agreed by the fire officer beforehand. it will
be the hirer's responsibility to ensure this in liaison with management at
least six weeks before any performance.

management reserves the right to gain access to any space in the building
at any time.

the hirer shall undertake to ensure that good order is maintained in brighthelm
during the period of hire, and that no damage be caused to its structure or
content; to inform a member of brighthelm staff immediately if disorder or
damage occurs. the hirer will leave brighthelm and the equipment therein in
a reasonably clean condition. if management is not satisfied with the condition
of brighthelm or the said equipment when given up by the hirer, the hirer
will be required to pay the cost of cleaning. the hirer shall be responsible
for the cost of making good or replacing any fabric or equipment damaged or
lost in the course of use.

hirers who are given keys for the purpose of access to rooms or other areas
of the building must lock these rooms or areas and return the keys to reception
as soon as their period of hire is over.

the hirer accepts responsibility for the care of all goods, articles equipment
or chattels placed, deposited, brought into or left upon the premises by the
hirer or any person associated with the hirer and for insurance thereof; and
brighthelm accepts no liability in respect of any loss, damage, theft or destruction,
however caused, for such items.

brighthelm, its agents or its staff, paid or unpaid shall not be vicariously
liable for any acts or omissions by the hirer or persons associated with the
hirer which may cause loss, damage or injury to lawful visitors to brighthelm.

brighthelm shall not be liable for loss caused through any breakdown of machinery,
failure of the supply of gas, electricity, leakage of water, fire, restricted
by a civil authority, or act of god which may cause brighthelm to be closed.

brighthelm does not provide attendants for stewarding any event. when the
premises are used for any public event, whether a charge is made for entry
or not, a sufficient number of stewards, agreed by name in advance between
brighthelm and the hirers shall be provided by the organisers and must be
in attendance for the duration of the event.

alcoholic liquor may not be brought onto the premises except with the prior
permission of the minister of brighthelm church. in addition the sale of alcoholic
liquor is strictly subject to prior licensing arrangements.

no animals, except guide dogs, may be brought onto the premises except with
the prior permission of management.

no sweepstake, raffle or other form of lottery shall be promoted, conducted
or held at brighthelm except with the permission of the minister of brighthelm
church.

no bolts, nails, tacks, screws, pins, drill-bits or other objects shall be
driven into any parts of the building including the ceiling or contents, nor
shall any placard or other articles be affixed thereto by any means. posters,
declarations, flags, emblems, stickers or any articles for display shall only
be displayed with and in such manner as shall be approved by management in
advance.

no alteration or addition shall be made to the gas or the electrical fittings
including overloading the socket outlets, double pinning etc. no additional
kind of lighting or heating shall be introduced without prior permission of
management.

the hirer shall undertake to pay the charges for the hire promptly on demand
and pay any additional costs which result from a breach of any of the conditions
specified herein. failure to pay on demand will result in legal action and/or
cancellation of further bookings.

no hire of any space in brighthelm entitles the hirer to space in brighthelm's
car park. (see booking form for details)

hirers must note that the sale or distribution of newspapers, leaflets or
any other item is not allowed in any part of the building or grounds except
within spaces booked by the hirer.

brighthelm does not permit advertising of events on its premises by flyposting
and reserves the right to cancel events without liability should this ban
be contravened.
please note: the use of the church/auditorium and the disco area in the basement is covered by theatre and public entertainment regulations and thereforeadditional conditions of use will apply.
